A dramatic house for a spectacular site in Ridgefield, CT

The design for this house arose from its dramatic westward-facing site, on a craggy ridgetop in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Large glass areas bring the house's open-plan interior into direct contact with a landscape that includes forty-mile vistas across Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

Drawing upon twentieth-century Modernist traditions, the exterior masses are articulated in an elemental design of solid and void areas, and a dramatic swimming pool reflects these elements at the edge of a rocky outcrop.

The house, designed for a collector of contemporary art, also provides settings for large canvasses and sculptures in a manner that is fully integrated with the principal living spaces.
